It is only recently that scientists have discovered that the beautiful colors of a peacock feather are produced not by pigments, but by tiny, 2 dimensional crystal like structures which filter and reflect different wavelengths of light arranged so delicately and perfectly at different angles so that they always reflect the same colours in the same pattern.
So what happens is that the crystal-like structure is so shaped that it allows certain colors of the spectrum to pass through and block others. Now lets see what Nahjul Balagha says about peacock feathers...
"One of the most fascinating colour schemes is in the feathers of peacock"
"...From the holes of its ears a thin white line of the colour of coamomile flower runs upwards and brightens the black colours of the surrounding parts. A careful study will show you thatBARRING a few all of the colours of RAINBOW have bordered this white line and on account of their brightness, glaze and silky shine they look like multi-coloured spring flowers arranged most artistically.
